When The Time Comes
Biog: A playground fight may not be the most promising start to the creation of a band; however, it was from these fractious beginnings that the story of ARDENTJOHN (pronounced Ardent John) began, some time ago on the Scottish Isle of Bute when future musician types Alan Shields and Keiron Mason came to blows.
Happily, following an unexpected reunion on Edinburgh’s Princess Street in 2005, the two former pugilists decided to forget the unsavoury incident and to begin to make music together. Singing guitarist Keiron and singing bassist Alan have since been joined by Mark Abbott (lead guitar), Seth Marron (drums / percussion), Linda Tym (cello / xylophone / vocals) and Dorota Wojtowicz (violins), some of whom are from places as diverse as Crieff, New York and Alberta.
Now if any fights occur they are related to the music, which they make on a variety of instruments whilst recording anywhere they can, including friends’ box rooms, church attics and loch-side cottages. And out of those very box rooms, attics and scenic cottages has come the lush, languid sounds of their debut album, ‘On The Wire’ which is released through the Slow Train label on January 25th 2010.
