Biog: Al Shields is an Edinburgh-based singer and songwriter, with influences rooted in old-time country, folk and blues music. Scottish music reviewers Bluesbunny recently described his work as “songs that would make any country troubadour proud”.
Having just released his first EP on Edinburgh label Slow Train Records, Al is currently working on his full-length debut album, due in summer 2011, with a busy touring schedule planned to promote the release.
Al moved to Edinburgh in 2005, joining folk-rock outfit Ardentjohn, with whom he has enjoyed independent success. Their 2010 album ‘On The Wire’ garnered very favourable reviews in mainstream music press, with Uncut magazine describing the band as “refreshing new arrivals”.
As well as spending 5 years recording and gigging extensively with Ardentjohn, Al also regularly plays with alt-country rockers The Electric Ghosts. These ventures have enabled him to work with a number of talented Edinburgh musicians; many of whom are set to appear on his debut release.
